ASUU Strike: We will call off the strike when the UTAS Testing is complete.

Published

on

ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, stated this while speaking on Channels Television on Monday night.

Osodeke claimed an agreement had been reached with the government, but it has not been signed.

According to him, ASUU’s insistence on using their own generated payment platform, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS), is a key demand.

“As far as ASUU is concerned, the strike can end tomorrow.

“We have finished the negotiation. If the government calls us now to come and sign the agreement, we will be there tomorrow.

“Let the government tell us they have finished testing the UTAS and we have accepted it, then we will call off the strike.

“When will they sign the agreement? When will they accept UTAS? Those are the two questions we should ask the Nigerian government,” Osodeke said.

Outcome of Gov. Wike’s meeting with Atiku In London.

Following the brief meet in London, the main purpose behind the meeting has been disclosed, on the meeting between the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike and 2023 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar in London last week.

Recall that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic party, and the sitting Gov of Rivers state has been feuding over the primary elections conducted within the party

The meeting held in Lon was attended by Governors Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom, Seyi Makinde, who are allies of Wike and Ahmadu Fintiri, an ally of the former vice-president

However, reconciliatory moves are in high-gear and this newspaper has reliably gathered that Wike and his allies made 6 solid demands from Atiku in order to support him in 2023. The demands include;

The rift became wider after Atiku chose Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate against the recommendation of a committee setup to chose the Vice Presidential candidate of the Party. The committee had selected Wike. Following the meeting, Gov. Wike made certain demands.

A reliable source disclosed that Atiku allegedly told Wike that he will consider their demands and get back to them within 2 weeks.

It was also learned that Wike met with Tinubu and the Presidential Candidate of the Labour party, Peter Obi, who are both lobbying the Rivers Strongman.

Speaking on the meeting after his return from London on Friday, Wike said; “I can confirm that this is the first time as a team that we are meeting with presidential candidates. For whatever its worth, consultation is ongoing. Whatever we are talking about, is for the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians. It is not parochial and tied to one person or group of persons.”

“We believe that with what is going on, it will be for the interest of Nigerians at the end of the day.”

Wike decried the situation where standard, training and competence had always been traded for mediocrity.

He said leadership should not be about one individual and the interest of his family, but about the collective interest of everybody.

“Consultation is still ongoing. Never mind some people who do not believe in the existence of this country.”

High Court orders the sealing up of First Bank’s headquarters in Abuja.

Published

on

The headquarters of Firstbank located at the Central Business District, Abuja, had been sealed up by the FCT High Court Enforcement Unit over failure to comply with a garnishee order.

Many staff of the bank, while responding to the development, characterized it as embarrassing, stating that, it could have been dealt with differently.

GARNISHEE ORDER

A garnishee order is one of the options open to a judgment creditor to enforce a judgment that has been made in his favour.

It is a common way of enforcing a judgment debt and is solely used to enforce monetary judgments against a debtor to recover money.

Officials of the FCT High Court Enforcement Unit stormed the bank (Coomasie) with towing vans and cranes and towed some of its valuables.

Items carted away included stand-by generators, Hilux vans and air conditioners among other valuables.

An official of the court, who spoke to NAN on grounds of anonymity said, “ it is a long story, but it is all about a garnishee order against the bank which it didn’t comply with.’’

Efforts to get the head of the unit and the bank’s officials to speak on the development proved abortive.

Some staff of the bank, while reacting to the development, described it as embarrassing, saying it could have been handled differently.

The bank’s headquarters in Lagos has also failed to react to the development, as calls and text messages put across to the cell phone of an official in the Communications Unit of the bank were not responded to.

Most of the bank’s customers were seen in groups hanging outside the bank’s premises.
